Stanchart Impala Saracens academy won the Nairobi nationwide championships on Saturday 21st at the RFUEA grounds. They won the match against a team(TUK) have never beaten in the league, drew in the first group stages, scoring a try in the first half,converting two penalties in the second half and drop goal to warp up the proceedings 14-8.
Impala started well playing deep in the TUK territory and after some good work was rewarded by a try from captain Ian Mabwa, who Antony odhiambo kicked behind the defense line for Ian to ground it.
TUK managed to win a penalty just before the half time whistle and converted it to reduce the points to a two point margin at half time. Impala Saracens 5-3 TUK.
In the second half Impala Academy upped the intensity and played lots of ball in the TUKs territory and were awarded penalty after an infringement by TUK and Ian converted the penalty to extend the lead 8-3.
The academy side still piled pressure and was awarded a penalty for their effort and Ian scored a penalty kick to extend the lead to 11-3. The late drop kick goal was converted by Evan Omondi after some good work from man of the match Marcus Garvey doing some hard work in attacking the gain line.
A late resurgence by TUK was rewarded by a try from the visitors and with that the champions of Nairobi was declared Impala Saracens Academy.
