The Resolution Impala Saracens feeder teams, the Bucks and Boks, set the perfect platform over the weekend for the senior Gazelles. First, the Bucks, comprised mainly of the Elite Academy players, whitewashed the Cooperative Bank College 64-0, in a match that was stopped on humanitarian grounds, in the 72nd minute. The Impala young guns led 44-0, at the break.
“The College had some big boys in the forwards and have potential only that it is their first season and they will get better. Otherwise, our young lads were just more organised and executed many of the linebreaks,” said newly appointed coach, Nick Abok. “We still have to handle better and nail our kicks – we had a 62% return but only converted 5 from 9 tries”
In the midday match at the RFUEA grounds, the Boks pummelled Quins II 47-10 in a match played from midday. This was the Harlequins day to host the double header league Kenya Cup and Eric Shirley Shield fixtures. The other matches featured Homeboyz versus Western Bulls RFCs.
Former international fuilback, Vincent Mose, playing on the right wing was on the try board twice barely into the match. He would later be joined by Innocent Simiyu, at fullback, who replaced injured Timothy Makiya, and Moses Kola who came on for Anthony Matei, at scrum half. A fan was heard to quip: “This Impala side has more international caps that the combined Impala and Quins 4 O’Clock teams”
“Saturday was a good hunt. The health of the team is shown by how the support teams play,” said an obviously elated chairman Oduor Gangla.
