Resolution Impala Saracens leave for Mombasa’s Driftwood Sevens with four players out due to injury: David Dinda, Kelvin Kabole, Okowa George and Joash Ngesa. ‘The Safaricom Sevens Series is becoming even more competitive and no one is happy about these occurences’, said Captain Lameck Dunde.
‘I was worried ( a bit) when we sustained two injuries in Kisumu – Okowa and Kabole. But, training has robbed us of the other two. However, notable players have replaced them. It’s a team game. We work together.’
Dunde will captain a side that brings together experience and youth. Derrick Mayar will seek to continue his hat trick scoring runs. Leon Adongo’s experience and power at prop will come in handy at setpiece time. Richard Sidindi’s versatility at scrum half is expected to link effortlessly with fly half Nato Simiyu’s experience. Such unity and composure did they possess in Dala.
Samuel Oliech is back from a Saracens UK Global Network trip. This enabled him to play in the Premiership and World Club 7s. His partner there, Ian Minjire, is out injured (wrist). ‘Samuel is just from Prem 7s. His inclusion in here will add to our backline speed’, assured team manager Philip Mwenesi. Upcoming wingman Israel Soi is a man to watch too.
Samson Onsomu, who thrilled last year’s Sevens Circuit. which got him a national call up that he couldn’t honour due to a knee injury, is back! He will probably be in the reserves bench as coach Nick Abok bloods him in gently. He is in the good company of fastidious winger Paul Omulokoli, scrum destroyer Davis makori, aggressive Anthony Oyugi and the speedy pocket rocket Quinto Odhiambo.
This looks like a very interesting outing for the Gazelles.
