Resolution Impala Saracens got its Enterprise Cup campaign underway yesterday with a seven try blitz of Mwamba RFC at Impala Club. Half time scores were much closer with the home side leading 20-10. Eventually, they would run away with it 48-10 at full time.
The Sarries signalled their intentions early scoring in the 2nd minute. Outside centre Israel Soi was on the whitewash quickly after spade work from a turned over scrum. Fly half Anthony Nyandigisi introduced blindside winger Lameck Dunde whose break opened space for Soi, on the outside, to breach the chalk. Quinto Ongo missed the conversion.
Captain Duncan Ekasi would land Impala’s second try when fullback Mark Kwemoi fielded a kick in his 22 then, sent a high punt to his opposite Brian Kivasia. Under pressure, Kivasia’s return would land open into lock Daniel Abok’s hands who then played inside to find Ekasi. Ongo would miss his the kick for the scores to remain 10-0.
Mwamba would quickly reply with a Matt Wanjia penalty conversion from an Impala knockon-offside offence. 10-3, Impala.
Ekasi would be on the mark again after buildup from his forwards’ picks and drives. The Sarries had driven a lineout maul into the Mwamba 22 which collapsed. Ongo’s conversion brought the scores to 17-3. A further penalty conversion by Ongo stretched to the score to 20-3.
Just before half time, Mwamba scrum half Victor Wayodi would intercept a Nyandigisi pass in Mwamba 22 and sprint all the way to score centre post. Wanjia’s conversion brought scores to 20-10, Impala.
The Gazelles started the second half with intensity similar to the first half start. They would go on to score 28 unanswered points from 4 tries, all goaled by Ongo.
First, Omollo scored within 5 minutes, from the blindside of a scrum after Ekasi’s delayed pass. Ongo extras moved the score to 27-10.
Then, blindside flanker Joel Omer scored to complete flowing multi phase movement. After that, his openside partner Paul Mutsami attacked the unmanned Mwamba blind side to escalate the score to 41-10, after conversion. Hooker Daniel Ndome would then close the try series with a quick penalty tap on the 5 metre mark.
The Saracens will meet Kabras Sugar RFC in the semi finals. Kabras beat Menengai Cream Homeboyz 60-22 in a quarter final match played at the Railway Club.
The Sarries will seek a postponement of the fixture in order to participate in the burial of former Kenya international Erick Situma who passed away last Monday. Situma is a former Impala player and player who was currently on the technical committee. He was also Rugby Africa’s Regional Development Officer for Eastern, Central and Southern Africa.
