It only took John Oduk 24 seconds to place Strathmore ahead in the 3rd Challenge Trophy Quarter final match. George Orembo’s boot converted. 2 minutes later, Barnabas Owuor scored off Impala indiscipline in defence. Orembo’s boot split the posts for a 14-0 Strathmore lead. Samuel Motari’s physicality in contact opened up Strathmore defence. Although Owen Otieno managed to stop him, a timely offload to Leon Adongo was instrumental in building to Impala’s first try of the match. Mark Kwemoi scored & converted Impala’s second try at the 10th minute. While the scores stood at Impala 14-19 Strathmore and an imminent comeback wafting in the atmosphere, a missed tackle by Billy Omondi gifted Anya the opportunity to score. Orembo’s attempt to convert went wide. Although Centre Referee Peter Leo sent Strathmore’s Lucas Opal, George Orembo & Clinton Inabuye to the bin for infractions committed all within 1 and a half minutes of play, Paul Mutsami’s unconverted 14th minute try was a case of too little too late.
