Resolution Impala Saracens were arguably the best team in the first half. Even after Mohammed Omollo struck easily to send the deejayz 3-0 ahead in the early minutes of the game, the Gazelles defended well & countered the numerous attacks waged by Homeboyz. Davies Makori’s try, scored off sheer hard work was converted by Xavier Kipng’etich. Samuel Motari outpaced 3 Homeboyz defenders to score at the 35th minute. Kipng’etich’s boot converted with delicious quality. Homeboyz were not going into half time trailing 14-3. Aaron Khalechi grounded the ball after phase play by his fellow Homeboyz forwards. Omollo’s attempt at finding the posts went wide.
Half Time: Resolution Impala Saracens 14-8 Menengai Cream Homeboyz.
Samuel Motari’s indiscipline in the opening minutes of the 2nd half was not only punished by referee Constant Cap. Mohammed Omollo’s quick tap and dive try, which he converted, turned tables at the Jamhuri Park. While Impala were still 1 man down, Omollo earned his brace & converted it. Homeboyz were not saintly either & Constant Cap’s keen eye was arrested in Thomas Okidia’s truancy after his mid-air tackle on an Impala attacker. Impala took advantage of the deejayz’s number deficit to score through Leon Adongo. Vincent Mose’s attempt at the posts struck beautifully got the scoreboard reading Impala 21-22 Homeboyz. Impala would later fail to gather ground on the counter attack and invited Homeboyz into their own 22. Indiscipline from Impala defenders provided the best opportunity for Omollo to boot over one, extending Homeboyz’s lead to 25-21. Quick tries from Steven Otieno & Augustine Lugonzo (converted by Kelvin Masai) sent the scoreboard reading 21-39. The match could ‘have ended 28-39’, but Billy Omondi lost the ball forward after beautiful attack play by Vincent Mose, Derrick Mayar & Timothy Makiya.
Resolution Impala Saracens Chairman – Bill Githinji:
This loss means we have to work harder. There is still work that needs to be done. We still have 8 more games. Our structure and discipline have to be looked at again. Homeboyz could have been seeded first in this match, it is a loss we could be expected to accomodate, but we have to change how we execute. We seemed to have a plan whenever we had possession, and could even score. That was excellent, but we still need to work on our composure. We need to have it all together now & show it against Nondies next weekend.
Menengai Cream Homeboyz Captain – Emmanuel Mavala:
We were trying to get our plays right in the first half and planned to perfect them in the second half. You can see the technical expertise that Impala old boy – Benjamin Ayimba has brought to the team. He has worked harmoniously with Paul Murunga to ensure we go without a loss in all the matches we’ve played this season. Impala’s Xavier Kipng’etich gave us problems at the base.
