The Impala Women’s 7s tournament will be played this Friday 20th October 2017. The tournament whose main aim is to build young players’ skillset will be played at the Impala Club from 9.30 a.m. Speaking to our media team, the Impala ladies team Head Coach – Maria Otieno confirmed that this tournament has been able to spark interest in more than 10 teams. More than 120 girls are expected to actively participate in the competition.
She went on to add, “Some players in the Kenya Lionesses set up are soon approaching their twilight years and there is need to continue recruiting and sharpening newer, younger players to take up their positions. We expect to see a large number of young ladies in active competition & this presents a very good opportunity for talent scouts to identify talent which can later on be nurtured for global competition. In addition to exciting rugby, we’ll use this chance to teach the ladies on the need for social responsibility. It is only through peer to peer idea exchange that ladies can better each other. This tournament provides the best ambience for life skills teaching.”
Some of the teams invited for the tournament are Nakuru, Impala, USIU, BlakBlad, Shamas, Comras, Northern Suburbs, Bungoma, Homeboyz & Mwamba. There will also be a girls’ Under 17 exhibition match – a very good platform within which age-grade players can compete & showcase their skills.
