Resolution Impala Saracens ended their 2015 Prinsloo 7s Pool B matches with clear wins today. Going into the tournament, many a rugby pundit had believed that Impala would come out of the sunny and dusty day disgruntled, but coach Nick Odera had other plans.
Resolution Impala Saracens 29 – Makueni
Recently promoted Makueni had a difficult time adjusting to the Prinsloo 7s division 1 intensity put forward by the Kenyan Sarries. Two tries by Samson Onsomu and single tries by Motari, Mutsami and Sidindi were enough to deny the new kids any hope of beginning their Division 1 campaign on a high. Onsomu’s successful conversion of 2 tries sounded the bugle on any other team waiting in line.
Resolution Impala Saracens 27-0 Blak Blad
A match expected to go either way. Blak Blad are known to be skilled in taking chances & converting them into results. But possession and endless attack by Nick Odera’s charges would pin them down. A hat trick by Paul Mutsami, single tries by Muniafu & Sidindi topped up by a single conversion made true by Samson Onsomu booked Impala a slot in the quarters. But the Samson Onsomu captained side was raring for more.
Resolution Impala Saracens 19-10 Nakuru RFC
An impressive show of courage and unending acts of valor saw Impala reign supreme. Beating Top Fry Nakuru RFC at home is no mean feat as it has come to be known over the past 2 years. The wild crowd and the dusty pitch feel like an arena filled with lions waiting to devour a helpless prisoner. Pius Shiundu would hear none from the stands and open his feet to prancing before breaking loose to offload to Davis Makori. Makori’s bulk carried the ball, drawing in three defenders before releasing Shiundu. Shiundu’s dotting at the corner flag put Impala 5 points ahead. Onsomu missed the subsequent conversion. Innocent Simiyu would be seen dancing and later on handing out a short pass to Samuel Motari who ruptured defence. He passed it to Onsomu. Onsoumu was quick to pass it to Mutsami who strode into the try box! The captain converted this for a 12-0 lead. A moment of individual brilliance by Nakuru gem – David Kivuti and sloppy kicking by Ominde reduced the point difference to 7 at the stroke of half time.
Motari’s clean pair of heels & Onsomu’s superbly polished boot would stretch Impala’s lead by 14 points. Nakuru pulled one back but failed to convert just before the full time buzzer blared. What a win!
Resolution Impala Saracens will now face Mwamba RFC in the Main Cup Quarters to be played on Sunday 30th August 2015 at the same venue at 11 a.m. Sevens head coach – Nick Odera has insisted that his players focus on ball retention and conquering of set pieces tomorrow.
