7 Resolution Impala Saracens players have received call ups to the provisional Kenya 7s squad.
Ian Minjire who made it to 2 teams of the tournament this National Sevens Circuit has been called up to try out at prop. Minjire’s addition to the national team will definitely be his tackling & pace. His height & flair in the air are strengths the Kenya 7s technical bench will most likely need during the 2016-17 International Series. Derrick Mayar who debuted for the Kenya 7s this year has also been called up. He will seek to maintain his position at prop.
Samson Onsomu started playing the series at the Prinsloo 7s leg. His contribution to the team has been immense. When linked up with Kwemoi, they create trouble to even the most solid of defences. He is super dimunitive & transitioned easily from a brilliant fifteens season. He will try out at scrumhalf.
At the beginning of NSC 2017, new kid on the block, Mark Kwemoi always angled for a chance to play for Impala as the first choice fly-half. In an interview with our media team last weekend, Kwemoi acknowledged the fact that the coaches made a surprising decision to include him in the team. As soon as he was offered the opportunity to play, he played to his best of abilities, was nominated NSC 2017 MVP & will now face off with 5 other players for the fly-half position. This is his maiden call up.
Samuel Motari & Samuel Oliech won the 2016 Singapore 7s with Kenya 7s. While Oliech has always been a regular in the Kenya 7s structure, Motari sustained an injury during the 2016 campaign & was sidelined for 6 months. He came back to seeking fitness in the longer version of the game in the local league & successfully shored up Impala’s efforts playing at inside centre. He has been pivotal in leading the Gazelles as tour captain whenever overall captain Leon Adongo was absent due to injury. Some of his brilliant moments include winning the 2017 Kabeberi 7s & getting into 2 more Main Cup Finals: The Sepetuka 7s & Christie 7s legs. On an interview with our media team last weekend against the back drop of Dala 7s, Resolution Impala Saracens 7s head coach – Oscar Osir acknowledged Oliech’s improvement & ferocity in breaking defence lines.
We wish them the best of luck.
