Resolution Impala Saracens finish 4th at Prinsloo

Main Cup Quarters:

Resolution Impala Saracens 7-5 Mwamba RFC

After advancing to the Main Cup Quarter unbeaten, Resolution Impala Saracens had to face Mwamba RFC in an edgy encounter. Seems like Nick Odera’s charges had fully understood the task at hand and were ready to take on the Railway Club outfit. Impala looked the better team, with flashes of brilliance from Paul Mutsami and Captain Samson Onsomu. Davis Makori & Brian Nyikuli performed meticulously in defence. Shaban Ahmed would be shown yellow. Pius Shiundu’s try scored between the posts was easily converted by Onsomu to get Impala leading by 7 points just before the breather. The second half would be played mostly in midfield, with Mwamba’s Collins Injera attempting a poke or two at the solid Impala defence. The match could have ended 7-0 but lack of concentration and excitement got Samson Onsomu passing the ball out of the pitch after scrum down. Referee Ngige Wanjohi would call for a Mwamba line out. A 3 man overlap left Samuel Motari the sole savior for Impala. His relentless effort forced Owako to score at a distance safe from a successful conversion that would have sent the match into extra time.

Main Cup Semis:

Resolution Impala Saracens 5-17 Homeboyz

You must appreciate Haroun Lubisia’s boot if not intelligence in kicking. He made it harder and harder for Impala to retain a ball from his kick off. This played a huge role in Homeboyz’s  dominance of the clash. After pivoting on first phase, a cross kick deep in Impala 22 found a hapless Davis Makori contesting with 2 fast paced backs. The chase ended in the try box with a Homeboyz try. The conversion was unsuccessful. Minutes later, Oscar Ayodi would break through defence enroute to scoring. His try was not converted as well, bringing the scores to 0-10 at half time. Joshua Chisanga would be shown yellow & Samson Onsomu would use this opportunity to cut the deficit to 5. Alvin Otieno would kick and chase to beating Kevin Ouma and Richard Sidindi in pace. His successful grounding and conversion by Augustine Lugonzo would relegate Impala to playing in the bronze finals.

Bronze Finals:

Resolution Impala Saracens 17-19 Strathmore

The Kenyan Sarries would have walked out of Suguta valley with bronze medals on their necks but couldn’t hold on to momentum. After scoring the first try, the boys slumped in defence to allow a Strathmore try and conversion. Okowa George would drill in another at the corner flag but Ouma’s conversion would fly wide. Sidindi’s knee breaking side step would unfurl a gap wide for his 20 metre dash into the try box! Ouma’s neatly polished boot would stretch Impala’s lead by 7 points. Tony Owuor’s unconverted effort and Billy Odhiambo’s converted try ended the match at 17-19, dimming Impala’s hopes for the bronze medals.
