Resolution Impala Saracens completed the league double over Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad in an eight try performance, four goaled by fullback George Okowa. Openside flanker, and Kenya Under 19 captain, Tyson Okoth scored half the tries, three pushovers and one from loose ball pressure.
Okoth scored the first two from early scrums well controlled at the base when skipper Duncan Ekasi switched roles with him to allow him drive from the scrum tail.
A stubborn Blad would then reply with a drop goal by fullback Levy Amunga after sustained pressure from an Impala restart error after the second try.
Okowa scored Impala’s third try from another dominant scrum, this time picked by Ekasi and passed to scrum half Mohammed Omollo who drew two defenders and passed to the fullback.
The Sarries would then be lucky to concede just another 3 points, an Amunga penalty conversion from ruck offside, when a flurry of Blad activity put them under severe pressure. The 19-6 Impala lead would carry to half time.
Okoth would score his third and fourth tries in the third quarter. Reserve scrum.half Samson Onsomu (Mohammed Omollo) would then snipe the base of a ruck, find blindside flanker Joel Omer whose return pass, the scrum half scored centre post.
Reserve centre Bill Omondi (Samuel Motari) would then score a breakaway try from a Blad pressure error while right wing Kevin Ochami would close out a well worked team try for the final 48-6 score for the Resolution Insurance backed side.
“It wasn’t our most cohesive performance but there were pockets of brilliance in scrummaging and defence,” said Fred Ollows, Director of Rugby.
“Obviously, young Tyson will be proud of his four tries, three grounded from all-eight scrums, and one from typical opensider pressure.”
The Global Saracens Network affiliate remain top of the Kenya Cup league log for the eighth week on 70 points. They next play Kabras Sugar at the ASK Showground in Kakamega.
“That will be one of our best tests this season. We have some time to prepare for it and look forward to it,” said Ekasi
