The Resolution Impala Saracens starting team has just two changes from the one that beat Menengai Cream Homeboyz 42-39, for the top bill Ngong Road derby against Sportpesa Quins FC.
James Kubasu is bereaved while Richard Sidindi has had a lighter load because of study commitments. Experienced prop Dennis ‘Daddex’ Karani replaces Kubasu at loosehead prop. Kenya Sevens trialist Derrick Mayar is on for Sidindi at the blindside wing. Sidindi starts off the pine.
The Sarries registered a nail biter 13-11 win at this year’s Impala Floodlit tournament over their neighbours. They will seek to extend this domination.
In the Kenya Cup, so far, the Ngong Road sides have a perfect 20 points from four matches. Quins are only ahead on the log, at second, because of a better points difference. Impala is third.
This could be the weekend where either of the two rivals blots the other’s clean record.
Imoala Saracens’ Director of Rugby Fred Ollows says “We have traditionally based our rugby on our fleet-footed backs while Quins has done on the grunt of their forwards.
However, both sides have made significant inroads into the other’s territory. Saturday will be about who responds best to what the other throws down, particularly in key moments.
We intend to be that team”
The Sportpesa Quins’ XV coach Joel Ng’ang’a has been quoted in media as saying he will miss the services of influential forwards, lock and captain Tony Mutai as well as prop James Kang’ethe. He has nonetheless insisted that their focus is to get to the top of the table. This match potentially offers that opportunity.
If the social media banter is another metric to go by, one wouldn’t want to miss this match! Tickets go for 300/- at the gate. Kickoff is at 4pm – Impala Time.
