7s Circuit: Resolution Impala Saracens upbeat ahead of season
OSCAR OSIR

Only 17 days remain to start of the 2017 National Sevens Circuit! Resolution Impala Saracens winner of the 2016 Kabeberi leg have stepped up their preparations. Impala’s campaign of the 2016 Sevens Circuit was led by coaches Innocent Simiyu & Nick Abok. Eric Kerre, who plays back-row in the 2017 Kenya XV side was team manager. This year, the campaign will be directed by head coach – Frank Ndong’, Sevens legend Oscar Osir & Nick Abok. Victor Ochieng Oduor, who has grown through the Standard Chartered Impala Saracens Academy structure will be 7s campaign team manager as the newly appointed Team Manager – Jordan Weaver is away until October on family commitments.

Speaking to our media team yesterday after the evening training session, Oscar Osir, who has been working with the boys for the past 2 months exuded confidence in the preparations:

It has been an interesting 60+ days with the boys. We have been able to work on areas that were problematic on an individual and team level. We can see transformation in the boys’ bodies. The morning gym sessions have been influential as well. In addition to the physical work, we have also been working on their mental skills.

In answering to leadership within the playing unit, Osir had this to reveal:

Our captain this year will be Leon Adongo who requires no introduction. His involvement with the long and short versions of the sport at national and club level is quintessential to him leading the Gazelles to glory this year. Adongo’s assistants are Samuel Motari & George Okowa.

The Impala Saracens media yesterday released pictures of Ian Minjire who makes a comeback from an injury that kept him out most of last season & Lameck Dunde who was captain last year. Dunde who has been studying & also playing for his University in Milano, Italy is on a one month holiday and is expected to shore up the Gazelles fortunes.
