“This is one tournament we have always let ourselves down in so many ways, but we are working hard to make a good outing from this tour,” starts Resolution Impala Saracens 7s coach – Nick Abok.
The best Resolution Impala Saracens could muster in the coastal city of Mombasa last year was a plate final finish. The boys fell 15-5 to KCB. This year, coaches Frank Ndong’, Oscar Osir & Nick Abok find themselves facing KCB in the preliminaries to be played on the 2nd of September at the Mombasa Sports Club.
“We know it will be tough on day one, but we have just one goal on the 2nd of September & that is: Qualifying for the quarters. Once we get to the quarters on 3rd September, we’ll employ the ‘one game at a time’ mantra,” adds Abok.
Other teams in Pool C include Mean Machine RFC & Mombasa Sports Club.
Asked about what teams he thinks could pose the biggest threat to Resolution Impala Saracens on day 1, Abok’s respect for the three opponents is clear, “All of them are unpredictable, we will have to be at our best. They will obviously come hard at us & we’ll have to settle very quickly.”
Resolution Impala Saracens 7s campaign captain – Leon Ndongo did not take part in the mini match-fitness tournament played at CUEA on Saturday 19th August 2017 due to acute groin pain. He has however reported improvement & was spotted running this week. Chances are high that he will travel & shore up the team’s efforts in Mombasa.
