Resolution Impala Saracens 7s coach – Oscar Osir this morning spoke to our media team in reviewing the team performance at Driftwood 7s:
It was general consensus that the team didn’t play to it’s full potential. We’ve all agreed that the team will work on individual improvement. Team improvement on specific aspects and departments that we know too well cost us in Mombasa will also be a focus this week. Our training resumes today, Monday 4th September 2017.
Resolution Impala Saracens had to dig deeper to book a Main Cup Quarters slot after a shock 5-7 loss to Mean Machine RFC in the opening match:
The team also had to wait until the final minute of the first half to break through Mombasa Sports Club and finally win the match 25-0. A converted centre-post try by KCB threatened to relegate Impala to the Challenge Trophy contest but sheer will-power from a Joel Omer – Robin Kiplang’at partnership bore a try that pushed scores to 10-7 in Impala favour. A final dash of hope by Ian Mabwa after Kiplang’at kicked deep into KCB territory booked Impala the quarter final slot. It could have been expected that Impala cruise to the Main Cup Semis but a cagey 0-10 performance by the boys gifted Menengai Oilers an advancement. The Gazelles displayed a flair-filled 25-0 performance against Nondies in the 5th place final qualifier but lost concentration at the buzzer in their last game of the tournament, allowing Kabras to sneak into 5th with a 12-5 win.
Mabwa named Man Of The Tournament
Double O as he is famously known has amid all the mixed results pointed out one player who stood out throughout the tournament:
Ian Mabwa controlled the games well. There were moments our defence line was breached but he made it his duty to deny the opponent a chance to score. It is probably his first time playing at this level but for a man of his stature, he has defied all the odds & norms to become our Man of The Tournament from Driftwood 7s.
