The Kenya Rugby Union on Tuesday 5th September 2017 released the Kabeberi 7s poolings.
Resolution Impala Saracens are in Pool C together with Menengai Oilers, BlakBlad RC & Catholic University of Eastern Africa.
It will be an interesting match to watch when the Gazelles take on Menengai Oilers this Saturday – 9th September 2017 at the RFUEA. Impala beat Menengai Oilers 24-7 in a pre-season match played at the CUEA grounds on 19th August 2017. The same performance however, could not be replicated in Mombasa last Sunday, 3rd September 2016. Impala fell to Oilers 0-10 in the Main Cup Quarters. While Impala settled for 6th position & 12 points from Driftwood, Oilers emerged 3rd with 17 points. Pool C is another opportunity for Impala to prove that the morning of September 3rd was just ‘a bad morning in office’.
BlakBlad lost 7-12 to KCB in the Challenge Trophy semi-final. Driftwood 7s’ Pool A was not a quiet basket though. It had Menengai Cream Homeboyz & Nakuru who played in the Main Cup final. While BlakBlad survived & remain in Division 1, Western Bulls were unfortunate & have been relegated to Division 2. The grit that Blad possess and always against Impala is an element the Gazelles will be seeking to put in check.
CUEA were unlucky to have lost to Masinde Muliro in the Division 2 semis. The match that went to sudden death ended 17-12 to Masinde Muliro delight. CUEA’s participation in the 2017 Kabeberi 7s is by invite through hosts – Mwamba RFC. The last time Impala played against CUEA was 18 days ago in a 7s pre-season match at the CUEA grounds. Impala won 24-7. If the first match that the Gazelles played last weekend is a standard of measure & if the first half of the match against Mombasa Sports Club is to be revisited, Impala would need to attack the CUEA gain-lines from the kick off whistle.
