Our media team’s eye was caught by his performance during the 8 weeks of the pre-season and well into on-season training. Overhead during training was Head Coach – Frank Ndong’ exlaiming at Mbaka’s knowledge of the sport despite being at the club for only a short period of time. Sevens Vice-Captain – George Okowa also registered his surprise at how Mbaka has managed to stay in the team even after the first & second chops of the dreaded ‘axe’. This weekend, he features in the Resolution Impala Saracens 7s team tasked with defending the Kabeberi 7s trophy.
Hannington cleared high school in 2016. He was captain of Kangaru School in his last year of secondary education.
“It feels very nice being here. I first played at Embu University after completing High School. Then I ran some ball with MKU in an effort to find my footing in post-high school rugby. I must admit the intensity was very different and I therefore chose to take some time off and evaluate what I needed to do and which club could offer me the best atmosphere to grow myself within the sport. I chose Resolution Impala Saracens. I joined Impala with the hope of playing in the Under 20 tournaments & getting myself known last year but unfortunately, I came in at the tail-end of the tournaments’ season. I never got a chance to express myself then, but I had finally found a place to call home once more. I have grown in skill and strength since then. As for now I feel great to have made it into the team that will be playing in the Kabeberi 7s defence campaign. My teammates have been supportive & if provided the chance to run onto the grass at the RFUEA this weekend, I will play to my best. No mistakes, no errors,” Mbaka states.
