Resolution Impala Saracens fell to Nondescripts RUFC (playing in Mwamba RFC kit due to kit color similarities before kick off) in a match that the Gazelles trailed for the entire 14 minutes. Enock Markinga was first to tear through Impala defence & into the try box. Kanyi Charles was unlucky with the conversion. Allen Katoni scored Nondies’ second try. Kanyi was perfect with the boot this time round. At halftime, scores stood at 0-12 in Nondies’ favor.
Mark Kwemoi would score a quick brace in the early minutes of the second half but failed to convert both tries. Marvin Sumba later capitalized on Impala lapse in concentration to score under the posts. Although Kanyi failed to convert, Impala’s chances of getting back into the match had worn thin. A knock on by Motari Samuel meant possession to Nondies. The Rangers held on to the ball after scrum with heart & determination.
The resultant 10-17 score at full-time & Blad having a +4 points difference over Impala’s -8 meant Impala were out of Main Cup contention. Nakuru & Blad are the teams from pool A going to the Main Cup Quarters. Nondies & Impala play in the challenge trophy. Attention now moves to the Challenge Trophy tomorrow morning at 9.30 am. Impala will be up against CUEA Monks
Innocent Simiyu – Former Resolution Impala Saracens 7s Head Coach & Current Kenya 7s Head Coach:
During Kabeberi, Impala played very well on day 2. Today the problem was lack of urgency. The team played at very low intensity. This is a marathon. Yes, Impala is out of Main Cup contention, but the team still has a chance to bag the 8 points on offer at the Challenge trophy & build up points for a good series finish. I believe Eldoret will be a better hunting ground for Impala to win the first ever Sepetuka 7s tournament
Oscar Osir – Resolution Impala Saracens 7s Head Coach:
If I found myself in the challenge trophy as a player, I would want to prove myself. This is the best place for the players to rise up & correct the mistakes made. If today was a cocktail, I believe the shake is what we missed. We have very good individual players who need to pool resources together & execute. I know how our fans feel today. They have every right to demand for performance from the team. We let them down. It is a great lesson for the players and I hope they learn from it.
Fred Ollows, Resolution Impala Saracens Director Of Rugby:
We simply didn’t come to the party. It started in the morning with our match against Nakuru & we struggled throughout. Credit to Nondies. They showed up. What we need to do now is go for that Challenge Trophy. If we get careless, we could find ourselves in the shield and you know what that means
Willis ‘Foxx’ Ojal – 7s Head Coach – Nondescripts RUFC:
On a club to club basis, the win against Impala was fantastic. However, on a tournament performance basis, I was not entirely happy. We woke up late. Nevertheless, we went into this match focused on the Impala breakdown. We knew the reaction at the breakdown would be the determinant of this match and we went for it.
Motto Williams – Strength & Conditioning Coach – BlakBlad RC:
We have always been unlucky with mathematics. During Driftwood 7s & Kabeberi 7s, we placed our best foot forward but always lost to arithmetic and the tallying of points around it. Although we lost 10-7 to Impala today, it feels nice being on the better side of maths. We understand what playing in the Challenge Trophy means & I can only urge Impala to be careful with approach.
