Reigning Kenya Cup Champions – Kenya Commercial Bank Lions have confirmed participation in the 2017 Impala Floodlit Rugby Tournament. Speaking to the Floodies 2017 media team, Mr. Ronnie Kangetta, Team Manager – KCB insisted on the impact Floodies has on his team at the beginning of the XV season.
“We have always chosen to play Floodies because it helps us test individual players as well as find the right player combinations heading to the Kenya Cup/ ESS season. We have also not had the opportunity to play any fifteens friendly matches & therefore this tournament provides a good platform for measuring ourselves. If we finalize transfer negotiations on time, fans who turn out for Floodies 2017 will have the first chance to see Brian Nyikuli, Mclanhan Sikukuu & Joel Maingi donning the lion emblazoned jersey. Nyikuli could be joining us from Strathmore, Sikukuu from Quins & Maingi from Nondescripts RUFC. It should be a beauty watching Peter Waitere coming back to play especially after missing out of the National Sevens Circuit. Ken Moseti is also very highly likely to feature. If the National XV management allows its players to participate, you’ll definitely see Peter Karia, Oliver Mang’eni amongst others on the Impala Club turf. Our off season preparations have been going on smoothly & we hope that our players display the best of rugby”, he concluded.
Last year, KCB lost 32-33 to reigning Floodies champions and hosts Resolution Impala Saracens in the final. While the Impala Gazelles never lost to KCB at Kenya Cup, the bankers went ahead to win Kenya Cup & the Enterprise Cup. What do you think will happen this year if both teams meet? The only way to be sure is to come for Floodies 2017 on 4th, 11th & 18th November 2017.
