CHUM RERU CUP: Impala beat Nondies. Makiya wins the Ogeto Award
IMPALA vs NONDIES II-109

The Resolution Impala Saracens Gazelles yesterday retained the CHUM RERU CUP after beating Nondescripts RUFC but without garnering bonus points.

Impala fly-half – Anthony Nyandigisi & Nondies scrum-half – Yasa Musa were caught by referee Ngige Wanjohi acting ungentlemanly after only 15 minutes of play. The two players, whose argument drew in their teammates and turned into a full blown brawl between players of the opposing teams attracted red cards for both Nyandigisi & Musa. Both teams had to complete the match less a man.

Two tries by Timothy Makiya in the first half, one which was converted by veteran full-back – Vincent Mose secured an Impala lead in the first 40 minutes of the game.

Nondies’ long serving fly-half Biko Adema had a clean chance to reduce the 12-0 margin for his team by 3 points but he booted wide from penalty just outside Impala 22. He would later on be caught unawares by substitute scrum-half Xavier Kipng’etich who stole his pass in mid-air, ran past fly-half – Martin Juma and passed to Billy Omondi. Billy’s race against 2 Nondies defenders ended at the try box. Kipng’etich’s boot at gathering the extra 2 points shot just wide.

The match could have ended 17-0 had Robin Kiplang’at maintained his discipline within the 5. Not only was he shown yellow, referee – Wanjohi awarded Nondies a penalty try. While Kiplang’at was out serving time, Adema pierced through Impala defence. His subsequent attempt at the conversion blew wide.
