5 Kenya Cup Clubs have confirmed participation in the 2018 Impala Rugby Floodlit Tournament sponsored by BLAZE.
KCB, who won the 36th edition of the tournament will be coming back to the Impala Club turf to defend their trophy. The team has chosen to travel to South Africa for their 10 day pre-season preparations between Wednesday 26th September & Sunday 7th October 2018. The Lions should be back in time for the Floodies 2018 Quarters to be played on the 13th of October 2018. Top Fry Nakuru come back into the competition after not featuring in the 2017 edition, a confirmation that has lifted the spirits of the tournament organising committee. Surprise package of the 2016 competition – Strathmore, who put forth spirited display against their opponents in the 2016 Plate Final have also confirmed participation. Kenya Harlequins who played & beat Strathmore 33-29 in the Plate Final are the fourth team to confirm participation. Resolution Impala Saracens, the 36th edition runners-up who lost by a mere 17-18 score to KCB on 18th November 2017 have automatic participation by virtue of being hosts. If preparation is anything to go by, the hosts, who are in their 13th week of pre-season training should be a side to approach with caution when the floodlights switch at the Impala Club is turned on 17 days from now.
Speaking to the Floodies 2018 Media team, Floodies 2018 Tournament Director – Vincent Lukalo remarked, “Right now we are very happy to have the ’usual suspects’ come on board. KCB, Strathmore & our honored neighbors – Kenya Harlequins have always supported us. We are happy to see Nakuru come back into the competition as they always introduce an exciting dynamic with their travelling party. It would be very exciting to get Kabras confirming participation as we believe they can heighten competition considering their 2017-18 XV season performance. We are waiting for 3 more confirmations before releasing the tournament draw.”
