Floodies 2018 Semis: Strathmore Leos anticipate Resolution Impala Challenge
FIVE

In a match played at the Impala Club last Saturday 13th October 2018, Strathmore Leos survived being dragged into extra time by Nondies who continuously fed their 2nd half comeback hunger only to choke at the 80th minute after a would be equalising conversion was booted wide. The students controlled the game in the first half and posted a 22-6 half-time score but the second half was all but their piece of cake. Strathmore’s only points in the second half were from a penalty kicked by Gideon Makumi. Nondies went on a scoring rout and even managed an 80th minute try through Steve Odhiambo which got the board reading 23-25. If only Martin Juma had split the posts, we could have been writing a different story this week.

Strathmore Leos Coach – John Mbai, in an interview with The Floodies 2018 Media team is confident of his team’s learnings from the match. After identifying what his team’s biggest undoing was in the second half, he goes ahead to describe what he expects from the opponent; Resolution Impala Saracens this Saturday from 1750 hrs at the Impala Club.

“Playing against Nondies last weekend was interesting. In as much as they blow hot and cold sometimes, they put forth a very interesting challenge. They seemed to understand our problem, which is lasting power. Maybe this is because we are just 3 weeks into our pre-season preparations. We played the first 25 minutes well, but as soon as our lasting power started waning, we drifted off script especially at the breakdown and attack. This week, we are working to load on our maintenance aspect. We are also very keen on how Impala play especially at the set-piece. The set-piece will be a very important part of this duel. Last season when we played them, we gave away a lot of points through poor discipline and lukewarm scrummaging. Our opponent are a quality side. It is not a fluke that they always finish at the semis or finals in this tournament. It is testament to their pre-season preparations. For us, we’ll try and see which areas we can exploit. We are looking forward to an exciting challenge, but most importantly, we want to see just how far we can go within our pre-season preparations.”
