University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine have been crowned champions of the Varsity category following a 12-9 win over United States International University (USIU) in the finall played at Impala Club, Nairobi.
Mean Machine led 5-3 at the break after a try by winger Charles Kinyanjui who put his side ahead after Eliud Mulakoli had scored a penalty to hand USIU the lead before the clock hit the quarter hour mark.
Mulakoli would restore USIUs lead with another penalty before the returning Charles Kuka kept the scoreboard ticking with another three points following a drop goal. The fly half, however, failed to engineer his side past the Mean Machine try box and despite finding themselves in the lead yet again, USIU were unable to see the match out. It was Machine who had the final say through prop Paul Ekirapa’s try
