Mwamba Cup Division1 round of 16 preview

Impala Saracens Boks Vs Western Bulls II

Elsewhere, the Boks, Impala Saracens second string, shall be locked up at home in a tie against the Western Bulls II. The last time the two met in an Eric Shirley shield duel, the visitors overpressed, outplayed and outshone the Boks. The match, which provides a redemption platform from which the Boks can set records straight on who is boss, has interesting figures playing in it. A quick look at the starting 15 reveals a mix of experience within a cocktail of youthful exuberance. Leading the pack from the scrum down are Gideon Okello, Ian Bomu and Martin Waithumbi at the front row. Bakatta Mulla and Simon Muniafu push the scrum and maintaining its stability at left and right lock respectively. Ian Tagi receives a start this weekend at back row. His efforts shall be complimented by James Mutisya and Wallace Kwasu.

Yasah Musa, the scrumhalf who started for the Gazelles last weekend in Mombasa, combines with flyhalf Kanyiri Kariuki to dictate the speed of proceedings. Another Muniafu, Sidney, has been handed the left wing position. His speed is expected to stretch the Western Bulls defence when he wraps in the flashy back two combination of Derrick Mayar and Kevin Ouma. David Moenga drops from the Gazelles to fuel the much needed intensity required to burn out the opponents’ midfield when he pairs with Israel Soi at centre.

Big names on the bench

Struggling to find fitness from a long absence, Tony Gumo, scrumhalf -Michael Mugo and Prop -Nzioka Muema find themselves on the bench together with Charles Njoroge, Tom Lagat and Michael Pondo.
