Surprises exist in the world of rugby, but none as surprising as handing a ‘rookie’, Dan Ndome the Captain’s arm band on D- day. When we asked The Resolution Impala Saracens Technical Director, Mr. Fred Ollows on why he made this unique choice, he was quick to banish fear. ‘I believe Ndome has had a superb first season here. He embodies the character and in him is housed a heart that spells success for the next generation’
Here we have a one on one with the winning Captain, Dan Ndome:
First Season at Impala, first time wearing the Captain’s Armband, a trophy in the Cabinet?
Ndome: We thought it was going to be a difficult game, we settled early and were quick to capitalize on mistakes made by KCB. Our structures looked well lubricated on that day.
Who do you believe propelled the team to season success?
Ndome: It was a team effort but I cannot forget to mention Innocent Simiyu’s prowess with the boot. Him and Omollo put the opponent on the back foot and won us incredible ground. It was a pleasure playing alongside the Kenya Rugby icon.
How does winning a trophy in your first season feel?
Ndome: Winning feels great. It has been 15 years in wait. We understood the hunger from the board and the sponsors. At the back of our minds was the fact that our senior team had lost out on winning the Kenya Cup title. This was a must do for us.
What is the next big thing for you and the Resolution Impala Saracens?
Ndome: We are playing the 2nd string Pan Africa Strathmore Leos this Saturday 21st March 2015. Mwamba Cup is played on a knock out basis and we are looking at firing on all chambers.
