This year, Leon Adongo captains Resolution Impala Saracens in the 2017 7s circuit. With just one day left to start of the 7s season, he speaks to our media team & reports on the past 8 weeks. He also tells us what his targets are & how he feels about atmospheric conditions at Driftwood7s
We’ve done hypertrophy for 4 weeks, rested one week then come back for 3 weeks. There is huge progress. I have added 3 kgs of lean mass during this period. Other players within the team have also reported gains in lean muscle during this period. Introduction of strength & conditioning coach – Shane McDermott has brought a lot of impetus on our mobility. He’s brought diversity and effectiveness in our strength & conditioning programme. Our warm up sessions have become shorter but more effective, our fitness sessions have become more purpose driven. When different minds with great ideas come together, you expect magic to happen. Head Coach – Frank Ndong’s involvement in our pre-season preparation not only benefited the forwards, but the entire team. Osir, who is a sevens legend has had his impact felt with astounding respect. It has been very inspiring watching them team up with Nick Abok to prepare the team for the 6 legs of the 2017 Sevens Circuit. A good player must have goals. We won a trophy last year – the Kabeberi 7s. My target as captain this year is to bring back more than 1 trophy to the Pavilion. I experienced a challenge mid pre-season where I reported groin pain, but I am glad to have overcome it & got clearance from the physiotherapists. External factors like the heat in Mombasa won’t be a challenge to us. We’ve been there before & are charged for start of the 2017 7s Circuit
