Experienced Paul Oimbo would open up scores for the Boks but returnee full-back Mark Kwemoi failed to convert. Nakuru looked better with possession and soon enough Impala would be caught with infringement in own 22. Nakuru’s Martin Muita split the posts, bringing the hosts to just 2 points shy of getting back into the game. Impala’s scrum down maturity and solidness was on display in the build up to the second try. Mabwa whipped it out to fly-half – Anthony Odhiambo who had a breeze swatting off caught-unawares-defenders to scoring. Kwemoi’s boot was superb with the conversion. Impala 12-3 Nakuru.
Ian Mabwa’s scrumhalf abilities were on show when he quickly scratched to scoring under the posts after referee Brian Kipkoech penalized Nakuru for dangerous play on David Moenga who was on his way to the try-box. Kwemoi failed to gather the two points with the posts within reach. The hosts booted over another penalty in the dying minutes of the first half. The 17-6 half-time score would prevail for the next 40 minutes.
Safety concerns while binding in the scrum-down by prop Esikumo Buyachi would fill the second half. It was also increasingly difficult to understand why Nakuru named a 23 man squad but failed to beef up their team with forwards forcing the referee to call for uncontested scrums in the last quarter of the match.
