The Safaricom Youth Network BLAZE has today announced a Sh 1.5 million sponsorship for the 2017 Impala Rugby Floodlit Tournament set to kick off on 4th November 2017 at the Impala Grounds.

Blaze has identified the tournament, which runs for 3 weeks, as a means of supporting grassroots engagement and youth talent because it offers a great platform for rugby talent in Nairobi.

“BLAZE is a youth network that continues to engage young men and women in their environment with the aim of supporting their talent. We settled on Impala Floodlights Tournament because it goes hand in hand with our theme this year which is G.R.I.T (greatness requires internal toughness),” said Sylvia Mulinge, Director – Consumer Business, Safaricom.

“The intense training, preparation and dedication required to make to take part in the tournament resonates with our message that to get what you want you must persevere through the challenges. Our aim is to amplify our engagements with the youth and connect with them through activities that not only enable them to engage, but also enhance their growth and well-being,” said Mulinge.

The tournament will kick off on 4th November with the quarterfinals, paving way for semifinals to be held on 11th November and the finals on 18th November.

Impala Floodlights is a tournament that is used to gauge clubs’ preparedness and form ahead of the new league season as teams test their combinations and new players going into the Kenya Cup League. Among the categories that will be featured in the competition include Women’s category, Universities and senior teams.

“At BLAZE, we believe that sponsorship creates opportunities that not only benefit our business but also empower the youth far and beyond.  It is also important to note that BLAZE offers a unique platform that engages young people in various fields where their passion lies,” said Mulinge.

As part of this sponsorship, BLAZE will also award every Man Of The Match with a smartphone, a bluetooth speaker & 5,000 airtime. The tournament MVP will receive a smartphone, bluetooth speaker & 10,000 airtime.

BLAZE is a sub-brand of Safaricom and was created to give the youth aged 26 years and below, products, services and benefits tailored specifically to meet their everyday needs.

A first of its kind platform in Kenya, East and Central Africa, BLAZE was founded on what Kenyan youth say is most important to them: freedom, empowerment and success.
