Young speedster – Patrick Mutuku returns to 7s action this weekend. He is joined by another youthful pair of legs – Hanningtone Mbaka, who travels as the 13th player. Notable exclusions from the team include – Ishmael Mokaya who is out with injury and George Okowa. Okowa has been rested as team coach – Oscar Osir looks to implement a rotational programme aimed at maintaining depth throughout the season.
Speaking to our media team earlier on this afternoon, team captain Samwel Motari carved out an optimistic outlook, “On paper, that pool looks really tough, but the Impala I know thrives on taking on structured competition with vigor. KCB & Kabras are both structured. These will be exciting games to play. We will impose our structures against them and aim at beating them. Strathmore will be an interesting 14 minutes, although one cannot pinpoint definite playing structures employed by them, they are very youthful and nimble, making this fixture a little challenging, but we should be able to wriggle out of that pool and get to the quarters.
Team Coach Oscar Osir, in a separate interview confirmed, “We have brought Patrick Mutuku back. He has recovered from injury picked at Prinsloo. We have also brought back Richard Sidindi who has been raring to earn game time. Hanningtone Mbaka has been impressive in training & will come in on a need basis. The mood in training this week has been upbeat. We understand it is a tough pool. The boys are eager to play and win, not because they lost last week, but because they have since realized that honoring structure is key to perfect execution.”
