As Impala player & Captain, I am really happy and encouraged by the Resolution Impala Saracens Boks performance this season. Going all the way for the 3rd time in a row and only losing 2 games is quite impressive by any kind of standards. As for the gazelles it was disappointing going out quite early in the quarters after losing 18-21 to the 2016/17 Kenya Cup 1st Runners Up – Sabras Sugar. I know we are capable of much much more.
Mid way through the season I was impressed by the mental shift after the 17-21 loss to Nakuru in the Suguta Valley. We bounced back to beat KCB 27-24. This showed us that we can compete with the best when we want to. The biggest lesson learnt from the home loss to Homeboyz, the home and away losses to Quins and the quarter finals loss to Kabras was our immediate need to improve our decision making & strengthen our mental resilience.
On matters Enterprise Cup, I believe that in the knock out set up, the past does not impact on the future and despite us losing to both Quins and Nakuru within the Kenya Cup season, we’ll be ready to face and beat whoever makes it out of their pre-quarter final to be played on 6th May 2017 at the RFUEA.
There are several players from the Boks side who have raised their hands this season and can pull their weight in the top tier of Kenya rugby. The Gazelles can learn quite a lot from the 2016/2017 Boks class. After this year’s performance from the Boks side, I believe we shall have several of them in the gazelles side come next season.
