Resolution Impala Saracens Director Of Rugby Mr. Fred Ollows in an interview with the Floodies 2017 media team earlier on this week revealed his stand-out players and teams from the just concluded #Floodies2017. He also reveals what his crystal ball holds for Menengai Oilers & Resolution Kisii…
That was an amazing game of rugby. KCB started very very well. They actually started better than they always do against us but we came back into the match only for them to win it. For this particular tournament, KCB were the form team & sometimes it is good for the form team to win. It was a bit of a heartbreak for Impala because we didn’t retain our trophy, but it provides a very good platform to work from. Our team captain – Duncan Ekasi was quoted on a local rugby website as wanting a home semi final during Kenya Cup. We obviously have to go game by game but Impala’s intention is to go at the Kenya Cup trophy as hard as we can. I believe we have the capacity, we have a number of interesting players & hope to do better than we did last season. Floodies was fantastic preparation for us. If we were able to give that amount of competition to KCB who are the Kenya Cup defending Champions, we could say we’ve ticked the necessary boxes to start the season.
Out of the seven teams that partipated in the Clubs category, KCB stood out for me. They played a very good brand of rugby. When caught in chaotic rainfall, mud & an obstinate Homeboyz outfit, they turned on the skill switch and drove into the finals. Moses Ndung’u, the referee who officiated that match did very well to keep the game flowing on that particular night. Kisii have a chance at Kenya Cup if they fix their scrummaging matter. When their backs touch the ball, it becomes very difficult to defend them. Menengai Oilers are just a step away from Kenya Cup promotion, but they will have to deal with Mean Machine & Western Bulls. From a basis of superficial view – but which does not hold solid during the season, Mean Machine RFC are the team to watch.
Floodies 2017 was very exciting. The intensity was very high. There was some rain in it, but the teams held on very well. The 3rd/4th place playoff between Mean Machine & Homeboyz was also very exciting. I saw a number of players come out to play during the 3 weekends: Mohammed Omollo (Homeboyz Rugby), Renato Borzone (Resolution Impala Saracens) & tournament MVP Ken Moseti (KCB). Floodies 2017 was a very brilliant spectacle to watch.
