Kenya Commercial Bank have released their 23 man squad which will attempt to snatch the Impala Floodlit tournament trophy from the Impala Pavilion. Kenya Commercial Bank lost 32-33 to current trophy holders Resolution Impala Saracens on 15th October last year. It was a close contest, perfectly described by the Kenya Rugby Union as ‘one of the most exciting finals in Floodie history…if not the most exciting.’
Speaking to the Floodies 2017 media team today, Ronney Kangetta, KCB Team Manager conceded, “Yes we are under great pressure to perform. We won the 2016-17 Kenya Cup then went on to win the 2017 Enterprise Cup. We were definitely expected to win the National Sevens Circuit trophy, but we finished 4th with 86 points. Impala finished 3rd with 93. Homeboyz Rugby were second with 100. Kabras won it with 100. It is also important that we start the Kenya Cup season with a trophy in the cabinet. The fact that we have never beaten Impala at fifteens in the past 2 years is an added component this this pressure cylinder. We want to stop that jinx. What I can not rule out anyway is the fact that in all the matches we’ve lost to Impala in the recent past, the scores have been very close. I am however very confident that this is the year we blast past impala.”
Ronney, who is a rugby veteran also took the interview opportunity to pass his and KCB’s condolences to Kenya Harlequins, USIU, friends and family of George ‘Pozza’ Gachui. “Pozza was a true rugby player. He was a legend. A true patriot of the sport. He pushed the vets rugby agenda vividly. As KCB, we say ‘pole’ the entire rugby fraternity & may his soul rest in eternal peace.”
