Strathmore Leos have announced their match day 23 to face #QuinsPozzaXVs in the Plate Final of the 36th edition of the Impala Floodlit Rugby Tournament.
Speaking to the Floodies 2017 Media Team, Strathmore Leos Head Coach, John Mbai revealed the following, “We used the one week break to prepare for this match. Part of the preparations included training last Saturday. We watched Kenya Harlequins (Now #QuinsPozzaXVs in honor of George ‘Pozza’ Gachui, a legendary Quin who passed away earlier this week) play and have understood how they execute. There has been midweek talk on some of our players whose transfers to other clubs failed to materialise. So far, we are going to field those who have been training with us, but we welcome anyone who wants to play exciting rugby to join us. We want to encourage a culture where we have more players training and getting involved in an active capacity.”
This match is very important to Strathmore who would want to secure newsworthy silverware after a long wait. “To us, George Pozza was a father figure. Playing against a team he loved this weekend is very important to us. At the end of the day, we are all brothers of one big rugby family. I believe Pozza himself would love it if this match was highly competitive. Going by his pre-match banter, you could tell that he was a man who enjoyed competition. The perfect send off would therefore involve both teams competing to the last minute. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he concludes.
