2017-18 Kenya Cup champions KCB successfully defended their Impala Floodlit title beating hosts Impala Saracens 20-18 in the clubs’ final on Saturday, October 27.
It is the second year in a row the bankers have beaten Impala to win the tournament after doing so in 2017. It is also the sixth time in seven years KCB have won Floodies. Impala last won Floodies in 2016 also beating KCB.
KCB led 20-18 after Ahmed Shaban’s penalty took them ahead and Impala had a chance to hit front with a last minute kick but Bernard Rotich sent his penalty kick wide.
KCB’s Francis Mwita was named the 2018 MVP. The champions ran in three tries, one conversion and a penalty against Impala’s three tries and a conversion.
Samuel Asati, Oscar Sorano and Francis Mwita were on the scoresheet as Stephen Osumba converted Mwita’s try.
Xavier Bett had eight points for Impala scoring a try and a penalty while Quinto Oongo and Joshua Matasi went over.
KCB will now focus on Kenya Cup defence beginning Nov 17 when they welcome newbies Menengai Oilers while Impala welcome Blak Blad.
