Mwamba RFC are the 7th team to confirm participation in the 37th edition of the Impala Rugby Floodlit Tournament which starts on the 13th of October 2018. The team, which missed out on the 36th edition and finished 8th on the 2017-18 Kenya Cup log through Director of Rugby – Edwin Waita confirmed, “We had planned to have our pre-season matches in Uganda last year but couldn’t crystallize the plans due to the inflammed political situation within a transit region on the Kenya – Uganda highway. Our pre-season preparations started a little late & it was visible with our Kenya Cup performance where we finished 8th. This meant that we didn’t book a ticket to the play-offs. Our dependence on senior players also dealt us some blows. With these learnings, we’ve been able to structure ourselves & trust me that this coming season, we’ll perform much better.”
“Kulabu is known for 7s, but it has reached a time when we need to transfer the brilliance to fifteens. We are definitely pursuing some players’ signatures during this transfer window. Our keen interest is within the forwards. I understand that a number of our players will be engaged with the national 7s team for a while, but we’ll find a way to re-integrate them when Floodies kicks off. Mwamba will approach the 37th edition of Floodies with the zeal it requires. It is here that we’ll understand if our structures are worthy of deployment when the Kenya Cup season starts,” he affirms.
The Floodies 2018 committee is currently processing confirmation for the 8th team. Keep it here & be the first to know who the surprise package is…
