Resolution Impala Saracens have topped pool A of the Great Rift 10s 2019 tournament. The team which had recorded a 17-0 & 34-0 score against Nondies and JKUAT respectively curled into a shell when it came to swinging the axe on the final match of the day.
Homeboyz looked strong in yellow and blue kit, but events within first half established the very youthful Impala as the stronger of the two. Although Impala went on to dominate the 2nd half & created 3 chances, the stars did not look up as all 3 opportunities went to waste through unforced errors. Homeboyz only managed to create 1 chance which they seemed to grab with both hands and dig into with sharp fangs. If the centre referee had not been considerate enough to consult with the touch judge, the 0-0 score at the full-time buzzer would not have prevailed & Impala would have sipped from the rather unsavoury 2nd-pool-finish goblet.
Impala will now face KCB in the Main Cup Quarters.
Resolution Impala Saracens Coach – Oscar Osir:
I am particularly ecstatic about this day! Out of the 15 players we have in the academy, 14 are actually products of the academy. 6 of the 14 are still playing in the academy side – SWARA. We have not conceded any point today & this is an amazing record. We just need to fix our decision making & we’ll be good to go when we face KCB in the Main Cup Quarters tomorrow.
