After a brilliant day 1, Resolution Impala Saracens were unable to transfer the excellence into day 2 of the 2019 Great Rift 10s. After losing 5-14 to KCB in the Main Cup Quarters & even after opening up the score-sheet in the 5th place semi against Strathmore, the stars failed to align with the youthful team’s dreams.
Impala centre – Emmanuel Okeya scored the first try of the match, Patrick Mutuku failed to convert & that was it for Impala. Strathmore’s 2 first half tries came through 2 missed tackles by Timothy Makiya & Okeya. Strathmore’s Omedo Richard & Alex Maina claimed the 10 points. Philemon Olang’ was able to convert only one of the two.
HT: Resolution Impala Saracens 5-12 Strathmore Leos
It was unfortunate for Impala to lose the man who seemed to be the team talisman. Patrick Mutuku limped off midway through the 2nd half after his ankle was sat on by a Strathmore defender as he fought to hit deck. Strathmore’s Matoka Matoka, Albert Obura & Arnold Muita scored a try each in the 2nd half. Gideon Makumi converted Obura’s try.
FT: Resolution Impala Saracens 5-29 Strathmore Leos
Resolution Impala Saracens Great Rift 10s 2019 Tour Captain:
It has been an interesting 2 days for us. My highlight definitely has been captaining a very young side with heart & determination. This side has actually performed much better than last year’s squad which dropped to the Challenge trophy. It is no mean feat getting to the Main Cup quarters. Although luck was not on our side, we have started building up a team that will become a force to make statements in the next 2 seasons.
