Resolution Impala Saracens gave up a healthy start, and a half time 8-5 lead to lose 31-13 to Top Fry Nakuru RFC. The Gazelles will rue the 11 points missed by fly half Nato Simiyu, when they had Wanyore under the pump.
The Rift Valley lads seem to have been taken aback by the scrummaging of the Karani brothers, Dennis, who was making a return to competitive rugby at tighthead, and Kelvins, at hooker. Edgar Obino completed the front row. Scrum half Michael Mugo would score from one such disruptive scrum on Nakuru’s 5 metre. This would make the score 8-0, after a previous Simiyu penalty conversion.
Nakuru would begin their resurgence with a maul drive try with Kenya flanker Michael Okombe at the tail.
After half time, quickfire tries from locks Phillip Kwame (pick and drive) and David Kivuti (maul drive) put Wanyore in the driver’s seat. The Global Saracens Network team was unable to cope with the ferocious forwards open play. It was taking too many men to neutralise the rampaging runs. This would result in the yawning overlap tries by centre Edwin Okemwah and no. 8 Martin Owillah.
In the earlier curtain raiser Eric Shirley Shield match, Impala Boks narrowly beat Nakuru II 16-15. Fullback Richard Sidindi was the toast of the Boks with a brace of tries. It was the Boks win versus Nakuru in ESS in four years.
The Resolution Insurance backed side plays Kabras RFC in tricky western Kenya fixture after the Christmas break.
