Resolution Impala Saracens face defending Enterprise Cup Mwamba this weekend in a match likely to be played at the Madaraka Campaus of Strathmore University.
The Ngong Road based side survived a torrid first half scare last weekend from home team at Mombasa Sports Club. 7-5 was the half time score. This was a far cry from the 26-0 for the visitors at half time in the Kenya Cup fixture.
It took 15 minutes for the Saracens linked team to score through (stand-in) captain and number 8, Joel Omer. Centre George Okowa added the conversion.
That MSC would score a try from a missed penalty conversion showed Impala’s mind state and possible complacency. MSC was a much better side this time, though scrummaging much better and showing much more commitment.
At the opening of 2nd half, the Resolution backed side raised their intensity. Omer would score his brace quickly with Okowa adding the extras taking the score to 14-5, Impala Saracens.
Impala Saracens, now playing tail-up rugby, would in quick succession, have two tries disallowed, one each from fullback Ian Minjire and openside winger, Samuel Oliech. The team retained workman-like calm even though pressure from official calls rose.
MSC would eventually buckle under the sustained effort for tight lock Davis Makori to score and raise the scores to a seemingly unreachable 19-5 for the coastal side.
Oliech would celebrate return to rugby from a long lay off when Omer, enjoying good form that afternoon, tactically avoided a pushover try with inches to the tryline, and passed the ball to the free winger. This closed the score at 24-5 when once again Okowa failed to convert the try.
