MINJIRE HAT TRICK IN SECOND IMPALA WIN OVER NONDIES
impalanondies

An 11 try romp gave Resolution Impala Saracens their second win over Nondescripts RUFC this season. The 63-3 win was an improvement on their first 50-9 win at Impala Club which saw the Sarries retain the Samson Odhiambo Memorial Cup.

Impala scored early when loosehead prop Stephen Juma breached the whitewash off a maul in the Ngong Road side’s first visit of the Nondies 22. Scrum half Mohammed Omollo missed the conversion.

Impala would then withstand a Nondies onslaught and only score again at the edge of the first quarter with a glorious run, concluded by Innocent Simiyu, from their 5m line. Omollo’s conversion was good.

Left wing Ian Minjire would then finish a well coordinated team try while captain Duncan Ekasi would pounce on a Nondies lineout error, to earn the team’s bonus try. Omollo would convert Minjire’s try. Fielden Sinei’s penalty conversion off a ruck infringement was the Red Lion’s only scoreboard response in this half that ended 24-3.

The Resolution Insurance backed side would score seven tries in second half, as Nondies tired.

Minjire scored twice, in this half, to complete his first Kenya Cup hat trick while outside centre Bill Omondi scored a brace. Omondi would later be carried off with a knee injury.

Reserve prop Meshack Tunechi scored his first try for Impala while inside centre Innocent Simiyu and openside flanker Paul Mutsami completed the try tally.

It was a bad kicking day as the only conversions added were, one by right wing Kevin Ochami, and Nato Simiyu’s drop goal conversion of Mutsami’s centre post try.

“Our kicking performance was the only blight in our otherwise satisfying outing against Nondescripts. We’ll have to fix that going into the ultimate preliminaries weekend,” said Fred Ollows, Impala’s Director of Rugby

“While this result gave us some breathing space on the playoffs, this coming week will only be about the Strathmore Leos who we play next. Excelling is a habit”

Resolution Impala Saracens has now confirmed a home semi final, reserved for the top two positions in the preliminary log, with 75 points.

The Sarries will have a bye to the semi finals when the third and fourth placed teams face off with the fifth and sixth placed team respectively to qualify for semi finals.
