In a dream encounter, Kenya’s most enduring rugby rivalry – the Ngong Road derby, pitting Resolution Impala Saracens against their neighbours Sportpesa Quins, plays out today 10th March 2018 at the Kenya Cup playoffs.
The Sarries finished fourth in the preliminary rounds while Quins ended up a place below them. Impala won the first round with inside centre Ishmael Mokaya and man of the match Ian Minjire scoring sizzler tries in a 10-8 win.
“Quins fancy their setpiece and are always competitive at breakdowns – largely around the border of the law. Their Saturday team has experienced operators in Joseph Kangethe, Anthony Mutai, Lyle Asiligwa, Isaac Adimo, Patrice Agunda, David Ambunya, Dennis Muhanji and so on, says the Gazelles’ director of rugby, Fred Ollows.
“There will be good support from the replacements including Herman Humwa, Brian Okwomi, and Frank Wanyama. However, we’ll find a way to win.”
Kenya scrum half, Samson Onsomu, leads out the side that came from a 9-all draw at KCB Sports Club, Ruaraka, last weekend. Kenya lock Erick Kerre and openside winger Ian Minjire are the only changes to the starting side. They replace Kevin Okeyo, who is on the bench and Kenya fullback Vincent Mose who is out the day squad, altogether.
