Oscar Osir on the Christie 7s Pool B
C_27wE9XoAAZoJv

Resolution Impala Saracens 7s Head Coach – Oscar Osir has led the team to 2 main cup finals. While the team emerged winners at Kabeberi 7s, an unfortunate 7-26 loss to Kabras happened at Sepetuka 7s. With only 2 legs left to close of the 2017 National 7s Circuit, competition amongst players within Impala has stiffened & battle lines between teams have never been bolder. In this interview, Osir opines on just how interesting Pool B of the 2017 Christie 7s is.

On Pool B of the Christie 7s

I think it is an interesting pool. We have lost to all teams except Kisii. Machine beat us in Mombasa – our first match of the 2017 7s series. Nakuru beat us at Prinsloo & we were relegated to the Challenge Trophy. If we take the same attitude we took to Mombasa & Nakuru, the boys know what will happen. What will always be interesting is every time we meet Resolution Kisii, they will want to justify who needs the bigger share of the sponsorship cake. We have enough experience to go through but if we approach it casually, it will be a tough day 1 for us.

Improved dynamics?

We had a number of new players introduced to the sevens team last week. At the moment, we’ll hold our cards close to our chests. We are trying to make slight adjustments to the team by trying out dynamic combinations. We’ll have a clear idea by Thursday & will communicate them before start of Christie 7s.

Mayar injured. Unlikely to feature

It is unfortunate that Derrick Mayar suffered a groin strain while training with the Kenya 7s this week. Having a national team player actively playing for the team is  an advantage we cannot downplay. He has progressed well from Prinsloo going into Sepetuka. I am however sure Mayar, more than anybody else would want to see another forward take up the chance and express himself. I wish him a quick recovery.

The structures

At Impala, we try to have a working formula. These are processes that work for us. We develop protocol that everybody within the system can understand. It does not matter who comes in. All they need to do is understand the processes & systems working within it.
