Samson Onsomu opened the scorers’ register at the Impala Club yesterday when Resolution Impala Saracens played their first ever Kenya Cup match against Resolution Kisii. Vincent Mose booted for the 7-0 lead. Vincent Mose & Timothy Makiya scored in quick succession, but Mose missed the resultant conversions. Lock – Rainer Omondi ran into the try box for Impala’s 4th try. Mose converted with finesse, pushing scores to Impala 24-0 Kisii. Although Mose was unlucky on his attempt to convert Impala’s 5th try scored off very entertaining deceptive play by Timothy Makiya, he superbly converted Duncan Ekasi’s try for a 36-0 scoreline. Mose could have scored his second try after incisive running, but he was generous to Ishmael Mokaya who was playing in his first Kenya Cup match. The youngster, who was flanking Mose’s running thus gifted the ball scored his first Kenya Cup try under the posts. Mose converted easily. Mokaya would later score his first ever Kenya Cup brace. Mose’s boot was amazing. Halftime: Resolution Impala Saracens 50-0 Resolution Kisii.
Although Kisii started the second half on a frightening note, it did not take long before they were extinguished. Tries from Derrick Mayar, Timothy Makiya, Vincent Mose, Samuel Motari & Xavier Kipng’etich worked to assert Impala’s backline razor sharp attributes. This half only saw one conversion attempt confirmed good: when Xavier Kipng’etich converted Samuel Motari’s big-carry try.
Resolution Impala Saracens Head Coach – Frank Ndong’:
I honestly did not expect such a huge margin. The Kenya Cup boys showed hunger especially when they showed up for training on the 28th of December 2017. If we continue playing like this & minimize our errors especially on discipline, we have a very big chance of securing a home play-off and even winning Kenya Cup.
Resolution Kisii Head Coach – Nick Abok:
The first 3 tries scored in quick succession are what did most damage to us. We however have learnt what we need to do with specific departments like the scrum-down and defence.
Resolution Impala Saracens will next weekend face Kenya Harlequins at the RFUEA on 20th January 2018 in a match that you shouldn’t miss.
