The Resolution Impala Saracens technical bench has released a list of 22 confirmed players who will be eligible to travel to Mombasa on the 1st of September 2017 & play at Driftwood 7s on 2nd & 3rd of the same month.
At start of pre-season, the team had a total of 38 hopefuls. A series of fitness tests and analytical consultations within the technical bench saw 5 players dropped from the provisional squad. After 7 weeks of training, Resolution Impala Saracens coaches agreed to play a mini match-fitness tournament against Homeboyz, Nondies, CUEA Monks, Strathmore & Menengai Oilers on 19th August 2017 at the CUEA grounds. Not only was the tournament important in gauging individual match fitness, but it has also informed the technical bench on which player combinations can best be used during the 2017 Sevens Circuit campaign.
How Impala performed during the Mini-Tournament:
Resolution Impala Saracens 24- 7 Menengai Oilers
Resolution Impala Saracens 24-7 CUEA Monks
Resolution Impala Saracens 24-0 Strathmore
Resolution Impala Saracens 29-5 Nondies
Resolution Impala Saracens 14-19 Homeboyz
Speaking to our media correspondent coach Nick Abok said, “The elections break posed a great challenge to us especially on matters consistency in fitness but the boys came back & adapted really well to training intensity. Last year we broke a ceiling by winning the Kabeberi 7s leg of the circuit. Other teams will naturally come hard at us this year & we therefore have to step up. We want to top the circuit but our focus is still on winning one leg at a time.”
