Referee Peter Leo penalised Quins for not being 10 at the line-out in the 4th minute. Quinto Ongo booted over for a 3-0 lead.
Quins’ centre – Smith Muhoya would have equalized for his side but his boot struck just wide a minute later. Quins’ winger -Harry Asena completed a nicely worked out system to score in the 11th minute. Brian Beckham converted to give Quins the 7-3 lead.
Kevin Okeyo quickly cancelled out Quin’s lead 5 minutes later. His try, successfully converted by Quinto Ongo gave Impala a 3 point lead. Patrick Mutuku was next on the scorer’s sheet. His 20th minute try neatly converted by Ongo stretched the Boks’ lead to 17-7.
Returning from injury sustained last year, Rainer Omondi showed the best of alertness & speed when he pounced to intercept on a Beckham pass. He would look back just to confirm if any Quins defender was following before running into the try box for a try that sprinkled despair in the Quins technical bench. Ongo failed to convert. At the 40th minute, scores stood at Impala 22-7 Quins.
The second half only saw one Quins try scored in the 42nd minute by John Kiilu. Muhoya missed the conversion.
Ongo split the posts 20 minutes later after dangerous play by Quins. Peter Leo showed Impala lock – Shem Angugo – yellow for dangerous play in the 76th minute. He would then send Quins’ flanker Max Theuri and his opposite Impala counterpart – Edwin Gatungo to the bin for dissent & retaliation respectively. The best moment of the match came through a Kwemoi kick into Quins’ half. Quins’ winger Pius Shiundu, who was not having the best of matches fumbled with the collection. Kwemoi who was playing with tonnes of hunger collected & stretched two Quins’ defenders. He then offloaded to a blazing hot Joash Ngesa. Try Time Impala! Quinto converted the 78th minute try to confirm a triple over the noisy neighbors in the 2016/17 ESS season.
