The Resolution Impala Saracens Boks suffered their second loss of the season in Kakamega yesterday afternoon.
Fly half Jone Kubu was first to score try for the hosts and went ahead to convert. Kelvin Odwogo’s unconverted try in the 20th minute stretched Impala’s trail to 12 points. Anthony Odhiambo’s efforts at chasing Quinto Ongo’s grubber were awarded after referee B.Alumasa called for penalty-try for dangerous play by Kabras’ Paul Abuto within the 5’. Alumasa went on to flash the yellow card at Abuto. Kelvin Lihanda’s unconverted try in the 27th minute extended Kabras’ lead to 17-7. Although Quinto Ongo split the posts in the 34th minute, Kabras would work hard to make sure the score-board read in their favor at half-time.
The second half would be Impala’s to control as Kabras showed signs of fatigue after Kubu scored off drop-goal. A tactical substitution that brought debutant Simon Peter in for hooker Jimmy Mwangi worked to ensure confidence in Impala’s line-out. Evans’ Omondi’s coming in at flank and the reshuffling of Oroko to assume lock duties after Shem Angugo was stretchered off contributed to stabilizing Impala’s forward attack. Unfortunately, Impala failed to make the best of chances when Sidney Chacha knocked on with just 5 yards left to the try line. Patrick Mutuku was then held up in the 79th minute.
