Screen Shot 2017-02-26 at 10.16.47 PM

Samuel Motari returned to scoring while Nato Simiyu came back to machinate the confirming of dominance over Nondescripts RUFC at the RFUEA yesterday.

Nondies’ flanker Simon Ngugi would see yellow for dangerous play from referee N. Gachuya at the 17th minute. Samuel Motari would speed past 4 Nondies defenders 2 minutes later to scoring. Mohammed Omollo’s boot was off to a good start. The flags rising to signal a 7-0 Impala lead.

It was interesting to watch hooker Kelvins Karani score at the corner after an overlap presented itself. Omollo’s attempt at converting this 28th minute try flew just wide.

Impala were made to work hard in the opening minutes of the second half. Nondies appeared composed in defence and very patient in attack. 8 minutes later, after consistent poking of the Impala defence, Henry Fullbright was seen walking over the try-line through a maul off line-out. Kevin Gachoka converted with finesse, cutting Impala’s lead to only 5 points.

Anthony Nyandigisi’s try borne out of a wonderful build up amongst the Impala backs was converted by replacement full-back – Robin Kiplang’at. The Gazelles had to withstand another 24 minutes of clever territorial kicking by Nondies full-back James Odong to sneak in another try. Winger Leon Adongo pocketed a long pass off Robin Kiplang’at to dot the bonus point try at the 80th minute. Kiplang’at failed to collect the extras. The win confirmed Impala’s retention of the Samson ‘Chums’ Odhiambo Memorial Trophy. This win still places the Gazelles fifth on the Kenya Cup standings. Kabras maintain 4th but only through superior score difference
