In a hotly contested match, Resolution Impala Saracens had to wait until the 12 minute to break open…
1st Half:
Kerre Erick’s try , converted by Quinto Ongo would not keep Impala leading for more than 8 minutes though. Blad replied through a neatly worked try by Frans Obudo. Although he missed converting Obudo’s efforts, Levi Omungo, capitalized on Impala’s discipline inadequacies, booting over a penalty to send the students a point ahead in the 20th minute.
Both teams would exchange taunts for another 5 minutes before Dennis Karani went to deck, setting platform for a sharp Mohammed Omollo pass to fly half Nato Simiyu. Nato’s pin-point pass to Nyandigisi would see the centre dummying and dashing over the line. Quinto’s boot converted this with finesse, sending the board reading 14-8 Impala.
Wonderful interplay between Ekasi & Kerre in the 31st minute would open up Kerre for a power run to the try box. Quinto’s boot never disappointed with the conversion. A minute later, Omungo would cut his team’s trail deficit by 10 points by booting over one from another Impala infringement. The students now pumped up found pace in Bravin Mukoro who punched through gap. His intensely fueled run and try was converted by Omungo, cutting Impala’s lead to only 3 points and closing the half at 21-18.
2nd Half:
Simiyu pranced over the try line in the 45th minute, but Ongo’s boot failed to put the icing on the cake. Commendable to note for the next 7 minutes would be Impala’s character in defence. For after defending for close to 7 minutes in own half, Blad’s errors in finishing handed Impala an almost golden chance. Erick Kerre would torment the students’ defence to going over , but referee Victor Oduor denied him the 5 points after consultation with the TMO. It was only until George Okowa’s try and conversion late into the 2nd half that the Sarries felt safe.
Fulltime: Resolution Impala Saracens 33-18 BlakBlad RC
