Swaras overcame a 3-5 half time deficit and an early second half Hurricane converted try to win 18-12 at Impala Club.
The Swaras exerted pressure, displaying dominant rucking and attack aggression. Hurricanes were however, the first to score from their first foray into the Swaras 22. Their dominant 5 metre scrum led to an unconverted try.
Fullback Anthony Odhiambo would reply with a penalty conversion, on his second attempt. Hurricanes were in breach of the offside line at the top of their 22. 3-5, half time score.
In response to the early 2nd half 12-3 trail, tighthead Brian Ochieng would score from a pick and drive. Replacement fullback Brian Opar would convert to narrow the gap to two points.
Ochieng would later be man of the match.
Opar then added a penalty for Impala to go ahead 13-12, for the first time, midway through the final half. The Swaras would up the tempo forcing many Hurricanes errors. Blindside wing Derrick Wechuli would pounce on one such to score in the corner to complete the 18-12 Swaras win.
“The boys worked incredibly hard showing consistent, commitment and aggression,” said a visibly excited Stephen Juma, the forwards coach.
“This is good preparation for the coming derby weekend, against the Vandals – our next door neighbors”
The Swaras remain second to Northern Suburb Cubs in the Nairobi Nationwide League.
