The 2016/17 Season as reviewed by Peter Nduati
NDUATI EDITORIAL

We asked Mr. Peter Nduati, Group CEO Resolution Insurance & Impala Veteran to take out his scope and examine Resolution Impala Saracens’ performance in the recently ended 2016/17 Kenya Cup league. 2 things are clear, his passion for the Gazelles & confidence in the Boks.

Did the Gazelles live up to expectation?

I felt the Gazelles would have built up from the past season where Impala topped the table and only lost in the final. After the first few games I realized that that we had lost the core strike players and that’s how we were struggling against weaker sides.

Noticed any strengths the Gazelles wielded during the Kenya Cup Season?

Two areas where I felt we dominated all teams was in the Scrum- I think Ndong had worked on it and we had best scrum technique even when our front row was not the biggest.  The second area was a devastating back-line playing off a quick ball from Onsomu.

You’ve played the sport before. Any technical areas you think needed addressing?

Unfortunately, we lost winnable games especially the return match of the Derby and the Kabras playoff game due to areas where we keep repeating the same mistakes 1) The shuffle in the line-out; we lost so many balls either skewed or overthrown by trying to shuffle. We have the Kenya starting second row pair and all we need is to allow them to jump up and get the hooker to hit them. 2) We never compete in the rucks at all.. other teams attacked us here and usually turned over our balls. We also tend to wait for the opponents to come at us in the picks & drives instead of stepping up.

At what instance did the boys trigger euphoria?

My stand out games were the KCB and Mwamba wins. We dominated the collision points and came out better.

Lows of the season?

Of course I was very low when we lost the Derby against Quins twice and the Nakuru away game which we should have won and decision making let us down.

To cap it off, do you have anything to say about the Resolution Impala Saracens Boks?

The Boks have become so used to winning that they should just be given the title at the beginning of the season. A three-peat is no easy feat.
